These are an Australian institution.  The “salad sanga” is made with two slices of fresh bread, a layer of sliced meat then layers of tomato, cheese, cucumbers, lettuce and onion (pineapple too if you like).  Condiments such as pickles, relish, mustard and sauces can also be added to the meat layer.

If you are on a low-fat regime you can get away without using butter by spreading the sauce or mustard over the bread first.

To take to work, pack with a frozen bottle of  water or juice to keep the lunchbox cold.
