Sometimes we need an extremely low-cost menu. We could have extra expenses one fortnight – perhaps we have to register the car or pay school fees. Whatever the problem sometimes the easiest thing to save money on is the groceries.

This series of $55 per fortnight recipes is to meet that sort of situation. If we were to approach food charities for food vouchers, we would be allowed $55.00 worth of food vouchers to last for two weeks. Therefore we are trying to develop a series of menu plans that will allow us to provide all meals for that amount of money.

We are starting off as though you have just moved into a new house and have absolutely nothing in the kitchen.  We will gradually introduce more costly items like olive oil and spices later on.  This fortnight we are concentrating on those staples, chicken, potatoes and eggs and we learn how to make chicken soup work three different ways!

Cook the basic Chicken Soup on the weekend then you will have chicken for rolls during the week.  Make up the Fresh Tomato Chilli Sauce and Yoghurt Dressing on the week-end as well.
